CILIATED PROTOZOAN
ICHTHYOPTHIRIUS MULTIFILIIS
- ichthyopthiriosis
- fresh water
- known as 'ich' : white spot disease
- obligate parasite (parasite that need host to reproduce)
- largest protozoan
- entire surface is covered by motile (can move) membrane-bound cilia
- body shape: sub-spherical to half round
- ciliates cell : has large number of organelles
- has white spot on body and gills
- attack: epidermis,fin, tails
- it will act ills like holding its fin close to its body
- rub against the available surface due to itchiness (flashing)
- lethargis:tiredness
- redness/ blood streaks
- leaping (jump) from water
-loss of appetite
- hyperplasia on epidermis (cell growth increase rapidly)
- gills became pale and swollen
- develop secondary fungal/bacteria infection bcoz got the holes on the skin as parasite leeches out
- interrupt the parasite life cycle
- removed the fish from infected water for 3 days (25 degree celcius) bcoz tomites can only live for 48 hours at 25 degree
- treat water to kill the tomites in order to prevent the disease from spreading by using malachite green, methylene blue and formalin
- but it can only kill the tomites not the trophozoites that are encysted in the fish.
CHILODONELLA
- chilodonelosis
- attacks skin and gills
- outbreak (sudden beginning) at lower temperature but can coz serious threat to fish since it has wide range of temperature tolerance
- no signs that visible in the early stage
- able to kill in a great number
- flat, heart shaped
- cloudy spots ob skin
- skin patches and became white disintegrate
- excessive mucus secretion
- heavy breathing
- loss appetite
- if severe, fish get out from their group and go hiding somewhere
-formalin bath
- formalin prolonged immersion
- potassium manganate prolonged immersion
- acetic acid bath
- copper prolonged bath
TRICHODINA
TRICHODINELLA
TRICHOPARTIELLA
- trichodiniasis
- freshwater and marine
- infect skin and gills
- produce by binary fission and conjugation
- conical, cylinder shape, top view: disc-like
- lethargic: tiredness
- gills swelling
- flashing: rub its body on available surface due to itchiness
- anorexic
- there are parasites coz overcrowding, poor water quality, poor nutrition, and other diseases
- some trichodinids can survive without host for 1-2 days
- salt bath
- formalin bath
- formalin prolonged immersion
- potassium manganate prolonged immersion
- acetic bath for freshwater
- copper prolonged bath
- typically kill with single treatment of appropriate treatment
- often recover once water quality is improve
ALLthis for my test one :D
